A dietitian is “a professional who applies the science of food and nutrition to promote health, prevent and treat disease to optimise the health of individuals, groups, communities and populations.”
A dietetics assessment involves a detailed discussion with a dietitian about your diet, health and wellbeing, exercise levels and lifestyle. Our dietetics service is highly professional, personal and non-judgemental; this truly is a safe space for you to discuss your nutrition issues.
We will ask you about the types of food/drink you consume on a typical day, the amount of food/drinks you would normally have, any medications you are taking, and any other health issues you may have. We will discuss your goals and help you find strategies to reach them.
All advice is personally tailored to your unique situation and background, taking into account age, gender, exercise levels, health status and culture. For example, we would never advise a client to follow a vegetarian diet, when meat is an important part of theirs and their families’ diet. Nor would we advise a client to start running every day when they hate running! Everyone is treated as an individual and all likes/dislikes are accounted for in the advice that we give.
We currently specialise in the following areas: weight management, pre- and post-natal nutrition, diabetes management, malnutrition, irritable bowel syndrome and the low FODMAP diet.
